Katya's story

It took my almost five years to get diagnosed with epilepsy. I live with complex and simple partial seizures in my temporal lobe, which aren’t usually super obvious to those around me. Getting a diagnosis was a rollercoaster because none of the specialists I had seen could figure out what was wrong with me, until one of my doctors saw an episode and was able to refer me to a neurologist who ran several EEGs and was finally able to figure out that I have epilepsy.

Now I am studying neurobiology at UC San Diego with the dream of becoming a researcher who focuses on understanding epilepsy better.
