My name is Julia and I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12 months old. I have both grand mal and absent seizures. The toughest period for me was middle and high school. I was afraid to tell people for I was afraid that they would treat me differently. But also for me school was a struggle. It took me 3 hours to do work that would usually take another student 30 minutes. That frustrated me. I had been on many different medications, and saw three neurologists until I finally found the neurologist who I believe understands me. I have been with that neurologist who understands me since I was 16! There was a point in my life when I was 3 years seizure free, but then things changed, especially when I studied abroad with Semester at Sea. With all the time changes and waking up early I had four seizures during my time abroad. My most recent seizure was in September 2019.
But besides by epilepsy, which I do not let control me, I am a passionate traveler! I have already visited 33 countries and 5 out of 7 continents. I enjoy photography, listening to music, watching Netflix, reading, and baking!
I like to think I am like every other 23 year old, except that I do not drink and that I do not drive. Sometimes I struggle finding what I mean to say, and well I am a bit shy when I first meet someone.
I like to think that I am though pretty much an open book, if you want to ask me a question, I would answer it!
